Torrão, Marco de Canaveses (Porto) — Quinta de Santo António announced today the opening of its first hotel.

Quinta de Santo António, comprising the hotel in a 19th century house, ten villas, bar and outdoor lounge, is born on the banks of the mouth of the Tâmega River to offer direct contact with the river, which flows slowly and discreetly like the rural life where it is located.

The lifestyle of those who travel to experience gastronomy, go for walks and contemplate the landscape will find in the particularities of Quinta de Santo António and its location reasons to choose this region.

✤ The unknowable Douro

In the green Douro of Carmen Miranda, before reaching the Douro vinhateiro of Miguel Torga, there is good food, forgotten heritage and places that don’t seem to be from “here” [Portugal].

✤ Douro gastronomy with a signature

Quinta de Santo António has a restaurant and gastro bar, open to the public, and the chef has created a menu that is faithful to the best flavours that only come to the table in these parts on Sundays.

In the land of roast anho, lamprey and vinho verde, the dishes will be served in the traditional version, but also in more sophisticated versions. They will be accompanied by a selection of award-winning vinho verde from the Marquesas.

At the mouth of the river Tâmega, the Foz offers a suspended terrace, almost on top of the river, overlooking the village of Entre-os-rios. This leaf-shaped gastro-bar has an entrance open to the public from the Torrão pier.

Life at QSA calls for sailing the Douro and Tâmega rivers, sailing, on a yacht or sportily in stand-up paddle or kayak.

Getting to know

• lock of the Carrapatelo dam (35m of difference of level, the highest in Europe)

From the river valley to the top of the Aboboreira, Marão and Arouca mountain ranges via the famous National Roads 108 and 222 or the Romanesque route. It is recommended to do these roads in a convertible car, but if you are a motorbike fan, you will love the curves and dirt roads to the top of the mountains.

The Hotel Quinta de Santo António – Country House & Villas is a private investment by the entrepreneur Jorge Azevedo, born in Alpendorada, Marco de Canaveses. He is a man of few words but full of diversified projects in the last ten years, which have included textiles, construction, agriculture, retail, real estate and now hotels.

The hotel project, which he recognises as the most challenging of all, for which he sought professionals from the tourism sector to join the team from the outset, is the “most exciting investment, because it’s like my home. And in my home I make a point of welcoming visitors very well.”
